No one wants ingrown hairs – they are unsightly, sometimes painful and
can even lead to scarring. Unfortunately, most people who wax or shave will
encounter ingrown hairs and many people who are constant waxers and shavers may think they
have to live with this problem forever!
Ingrown hairs occur when hair does not emerge from the follicle, instead
it curls back or grows sideways into the skin, where it gets trapped. They can
be caused by shaving, waxing and tight clothing and can occur on any part of
the body.
Options for eliminating or reducing ingrowns:
1.
Permanent laser hair removal
· By far the most effective method for saying goodbye to ingrown hairs forever
(and the only permanent option) is laser hair removal. Laser hair removal
eliminates the cells responsible for hair growth, meaning that there are no
hair follicles to create ingrown hairs in the first place – plus you get the
added bonus of being permanently hair free!
2.
Products
· Whilst not a permanent solution, there are many products that are aimed
at reducing ingrown hairs – some of them can be quite effective – often the
most expensive products are not necessarily the best so check products reviews
and testimonials.
3.
Exfoliating
· Daily exfoliation of the target areas will help remove dead skin cells,
which reduces the chances of hair getting trapped under the skin.
And as tempting as it may be for some people, do not pick at ingrown
hairs – this can lead to infection and scarring.
